Local Citations

Make every listing tell the same story.

Local citations are the listings of your business name, address, phone, hours and categories across maps, directories and data aggregators. Google, Apple Maps, Bing and AI assistants compare them before they recommend you. When they agree, you look established. When they don't, you get skipped.

Why agreement matters

Search engines and AI don't take your word for it. They count votes.

Google says local ranking depends on relevance, distance and prominence, and that prominence draws on information about your business "from across the web, like links, articles, and directories."[2] Every listing that repeats your exact name, address and phone is a vote that the facts are true. Every listing that disagrees is a vote against.

AI assistants work the same way, only stricter. Before ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot names a business, it needs facts it can confirm across independent sources. Conflicting phone numbers or an old address give it a reason to recommend someone else.

Try it: click any source to cycle it between agrees, conflicts and missing, and watch confidence change.

How your data travels

One record in, hundreds of listings out, then into the answer.

Your Google Business Profile is the source of truth. From there, business data flows through aggregators and primary platforms to the apps, directories, navigation systems and AI tools customers use. Fix it at the source and it stays fixed downstream.

What's included

Audit, clean up, build, and keep it that way.

Citation work is not a one-time submission blast. It is a maintained record, and every piece connects to the rest of your visibility program.

Full citation audit

Every major directory, map and aggregator checked against your master record, field by field. Mismatches, missing listings and duplicates are logged with the fix.

NAP standardization

One exact format for name, address, suite, phone and hours, matched to your Google Business Profile and marked up on your site with schema.

Duplicate suppression

Old locations, previous phone numbers and auto-generated duplicates found and merged or removed, so the web stops contradicting itself.

Primary platform claims

Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook and BBB claimed and completed, since these feed maps, voice assistants and AI tools directly.

Industry & local directories

The niche and city directories your customers and competitors actually appear in, selected by relevance rather than volume.

Monitoring & updates

Monthly checks catch data that drifts back. Moves, new numbers, holiday hours and new services are pushed everywhere at once. Multi-location brands get one record per location.

What we do

Four steps from scattered listings to one trusted record.

You confirm your details once. We handle the formatting, distribution, cleanup and monitoring.

01Confirm the master record

We lock your exact name, address, phone, hours, categories and service area, starting from your Google Business Profile.

02Audit every listing

Maps, aggregators, primary platforms and industry directories checked field by field. You see every mismatch and duplicate before we touch anything.

03Correct, claim & build

Errors fixed at the source, duplicates suppressed, missing high-value listings created, and your website and schema aligned to the same record.

04Monitor & report

A monthly consistency report shows each source, what changed and what we corrected, alongside your map, search and AI visibility. See how it works.

Citations copy your Google Business Profile. Get the source right first, and every listing downstream has something accurate to match.

Questions

Local citations, answered.

Local citations are mentions of your business name, address, and phone number (NAP) on directories, maps, review platforms, and data aggregators such as Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, and industry sites. Search engines and AI assistants use them to verify that a business is real, where it is, and what it does, which improves visibility in local results. Our Local Citations service builds and maintains them from one verified record.

More than before. Citation signals carry roughly 7% of map pack ranking weight directly, but their real job is corroborating the Google Business Profile that carries 32%.[3] AI assistants take the same approach: they assign confidence to each fact about your business based on how many independent sources agree, and a study of local AI answers found 415 different directories used as sources when Google[5]'s AI and ChatGPT look up a business. Conflicting listings lower that confidence; consistent ones raise it. See AI Search Visibility.

NAP consistency means your name, address, and phone number appear identically, character for character, everywhere online. "Street" versus "St.", an old suite number, or a tracking phone number creates a second version of your business that search engines and AI have to reconcile. 80% of consumers say they lose trust in a business with inconsistent contact details, and 62% would avoid a business[1][2] after finding incorrect information. We standardize the record once and enforce it across every source.

Each citation includes NAP data, business categories, hours, website links, and social profiles. Where the platform supports it we also add descriptions, services, photos, and attributes, so the listing is a complete and consistent copy of your Google Business Profile rather than a bare entry.

We verify and format one master record, submit it to the leading data aggregators (which syndicate to hundreds of downstream maps, apps, and directories) and to the key direct directories for your industry, then monitor and correct drift. Aggregator processing typically takes 38 to 45 days. A full report of active citations is available after four weeks, and indexing across search engines may take additional weeks. See how it works.

The primary sources every engine checks first: Google Business Profile, Apple Maps (Apple Business), Bing Places for Business, Yelp, Facebook, and the data aggregators that feed the rest. After those, a handful of high-authority industry directories (Avvo for attorneys, Healthgrades for providers, Angi and BBB for home services) carry more weight than dozens of generic ones. We prioritize by authority and by which sources AI assistants cite in your category.

We update the master record and push the change through the aggregators and direct listings, then monitor and correct any source that still shows the old details. Duplicate and auto-generated listings are claimed and merged or removed, because each duplicate splits your reviews and creates a conflicting version of your data. Error correction runs continuously, not once.

Service-area businesses use a consistent hidden or listed address per platform rules and identical service-area definitions everywhere. Multi-location brands need one master record per location with location-specific phone numbers and hours, pushed in bulk and governed centrally so a franchisee's self-created listing cannot conflict with the official one. See Home Services and Enterprise & Multi-Location.
