AI & Search Visibility

Search engines still send the traffic. Rank where the clicks are.

Organic search drives about half of all website visits, Google answers 8.5 billion searches a day, and Bing and Yahoo quietly take one in six U.S. desktop searches that most of your competitors never optimize for. Every AI answer, from Google's Overviews to Copilot, is built on top of these indexes. We rank you on all three, and keep you there.

Search engines are the foundation the AI layer reads. See Google AI Overviews & Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot, & Perplexity, and Google & Apple Maps.

Why it still matters

Every AI answer starts with a search index.

The headlines say search is over. The traffic says otherwise: organic search still delivers about half of all website visits, and Google alone sends roughly 345 times more visitors to websites than the three biggest AI assistants combined.[8][11] Sixty-eight percent of online experiences still begin with a search engine.[8]

What has changed is who reads the results. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode quote the pages Google already ranks. Copilot's answers are grounded in Bing's index. ChatGPT browses through Bing. If you are not indexed, ranked, and clearly structured in Google and Bing, the AI layer has nothing to cite. SEO did not become optional; it became the prerequisite.

Meanwhile the field is thinning. Only 1.7% of new pages reach the top ten within a year, 97% of pages get no Google traffic at all, and most competitors have never opened Bing Webmaster Tools.[9][11] Disciplined SEO is rarer, and worth more, than it was five years ago.

Three engines, two indexes

Google, Bing, and Yahoo: who uses each, and what each rewards.

Yahoo's results come from Bing, so there are two ranking systems to win. Their audiences and their rules are different enough that a Google-only strategy leaves a measurable slice of customers on the table.

G

Google

8.5Bsearches a day; ~90% worldwide, ~85% of U.S. searches, 95% on mobile[1][3]

The default on Android, Chrome, and (by contract) Safari. Rankings are driven by page experience, content quality and depth, entity and E-E-A-T signals, and authoritative links, with AI Overviews now sitting above the results on about half of queries.

  • Mobile-first indexing and Core Web Vitals
  • Topical depth, helpful-content and E-E-A-T signals

B

Microsoft Bing

100M+daily users, ~1.1B searches a day; 13% of U.S. desktop, its highest share ever[6][1][3]

The default in Windows, Edge, and Copilot; a third of Bing users never chose it.[5] Its audience skews desktop, older, higher income, and professional.[6] Bing reads signals more literally than Google: exact keywords in titles and headings, clear site structure, social and multimedia signals, and fast indexing via IndexNow.

  • Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow submission
  • Exact-match titles, headings, and meta descriptions
  • Bing Places for local; LinkedIn presence for B2B

Yahoo!

~3%of U.S. searches; results powered by Bing's index and algorithm[1][7]

Still a front page for tens of millions through Yahoo Mail, Finance, Sports, and News. Every organic result comes from Bing, so winning Bing wins Yahoo. Its audience overlaps Bing's: desktop-heavy, older, strong in finance, insurance, and B2B, and rarely switching engines.[7]

  • No separate algorithm; Bing work carries over
  • Reached through the Microsoft Search Network (724M monthly users)[5]
  • Tracked separately so the traffic is not miscounted
  • Paid reach via Microsoft Advertising at lower CPCs[13]

Why it pays

The channel that keeps paying after the work is done.

Paid clicks stop when the budget stops. A ranking keeps sending visitors month after month. That is why SEO tops the ROI rankings in HubSpot's 2026 survey of 1,500 marketers, why NP Digital measured roughly eight times return, double that of paid search, and why the median three-year return across industries is several hundred percent.[9][11][12]

The zero-click shift makes targeting matter more, not less. About 58% of U.S. Google searches end without a click, so we concentrate on the queries that still send buyers: service, local, comparison, and pricing searches, and on being the page AI Overviews and Copilot cite for the rest.[12]

How a page earns a ranking

Search engines do not guess. They measure.

Both indexes answer the same three questions about every page before it can rank, and the AI answers built on them inherit the result.

1. Can it be found and read?

  • Crawlable, indexed, fast, mobile-ready
  • Clean structure and internal links
  • Structured data the engine can parse
  • Submitted to Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools
  • No duplicate or thin pages diluting it

2. Does it answer the query best?

  • Matches the intent behind the search
  • Covers the topic fully, in plain language
  • Shows real expertise and experience
  • Titles and headings that say what the page is about
  • Fresh and accurate

3. Do others vouch for it?

  • Links from relevant, trusted sites
  • Brand mentions and reviews
  • Consistent business data across the web
  • Engagement: people click and stay
  • Result: ranked, and quotable by AI
What we do

One site. Three engines. Each gets what it rewards.

The foundation is shared; the tuning is not. Here is how the work differs by engine, and which Foundgentic services deliver it.

01Audit all three

Technical, on-page, authority, and local audit with rankings pulled from Google and Bing separately, so we know where each engine disagrees with the other about your site. See the SEO audit.

02Fix the foundation

Indexing, speed, structure, and schema corrected once for both indexes, with Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and IndexNow wired up. Most sites have never done the Bing half.

03Build what ranks

Pages that answer the searches that pay, tuned to each engine's on-page preferences, backed by editorial links and brand signals.

04Measure by engine

Rankings, clicks, and leads reported per engine every month, next to AI citation tracking, so you can see where growth comes from and what to do next.

Ranking on Google and invisible on Bing? It is one of the most common findings in our audits, and it usually means Copilot and ChatGPT cannot find you either. Our free audit pulls your rankings from Google and Bing side by side and shows the gap.

How we measure it

Rankings per engine. Traffic per page. Leads per month.

Averages hide the truth, so we do not report an average position. We track your priority queries on Google and Bing separately, segment Yahoo referrals so they are counted, and tie each ranking page to the organic visits, calls, and form fills it produced.

Because the AI layer reads these same results, the report also shows whether the pages that rank are being cited in AI Overviews and Copilot. That is the search layer of our AI Search Visibility program.

  • Rankings for priority terms on Google and Bing, tracked separately
  • Organic sessions and conversions by landing page and engine
  • Index coverage, Core Web Vitals, and crawl health on both engines
  • Referring domains and brand mentions earned
  • AI Overview and Copilot citations for the pages that rank
Questions

Search engine optimization, answered.

Yes, and the reason is structural. Organic search still drives roughly half of all website traffic, Google alone sends hundreds of times more visits to websites than ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity combined, and 92% of marketers planned to maintain or increase SEO investment this year. What changed is the job: ranking now has to be paired with being cited, because AI Overviews and Copilot answers quote the pages that already rank. Our SEO work is built to do both, and our AI Search Visibility program tracks the citation side.

Partly. Yahoo's organic results come entirely from Bing, so Bing and Yahoo are one job. Bing differs from Google in ways that matter: it rewards exact-match keywords in titles and headings more literally, weights social signals and multimedia more, relies on Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow for fast indexing, and pulls local data from Bing Places rather than Google Business Profile. Most of the technical and content foundation carries over; the differences are a checklist we run on every site. See Schema Markup and Local Citations (which includes Bing Places).

Roughly one in ten searches across all devices and one in six on desktop. StatCounter's latest U.S. desktop figures put search at about 82% Google, 13% Bing, and 3% Yahoo,[1] and Bing has hit its highest U.S. share ever on the strength of Copilot in Windows and Edge.[3] The Microsoft Search Network reaches more than 700 million unique users a month worldwide.[5] That audience skews desktop, older, higher income, and B2B, and most competitors leave it untouched.

Technical SEO (crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals, structured data), on-page optimization of the pages that carry revenue, content that answers the questions your customers search, authority building through editorial links and digital PR, and local signals through Google Business Profile, Bing Places, and citations. Each engine gets its own indexing setup (Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, IndexNow) and its own rank tracking. Start with the SEO audit.

Technical fixes such as indexation and speed often move within 30 to 60 days. New content typically takes three to six months to reach stable rankings, and authority gains compound over six to twelve months. Bing usually reflects changes faster than Google once IndexNow is set up. We report rankings, traffic, and leads monthly from the first month; see how it works.

Because clicks fall off a cliff. Across recent studies the first organic result earns roughly 28% to 40% of clicks depending on the query type, the top three take more than half, and 97% of clicks land in the top ten.[10] Moving up one position raises click-through by about a third on average.[10] Ranking on page two is functionally the same as not ranking, which is why we prioritize the specific pages and terms that pay rather than spreading effort thin.

About 60% of U.S. Google searches now end without a click,[12] and when an AI Overview appears the click rate on traditional results roughly halves. The response is not to abandon SEO but to shift what you optimize: buyer-intent and local queries still send clicks, pages cited inside AI answers earn more clicks than uncited ones, and informational content becomes a citation and brand-recall play. Our engagements pair classic SEO with Google AI Overviews & Gemini and ChatGPT, Copilot & Perplexity visibility for that reason.

Studies across industries put SEO's return well above paid search over a multi-year horizon (a frequently cited median is several hundred percent over three years), because rankings keep producing visits after the work is paid for while ads stop the moment spend stops. The two work best together: paid campaigns produce leads and data immediately while organic authority builds, and organic trust lowers paid costs. We report both side by side.
