Your Google Business Profile is your real homepage. Make it the one Google and its AI recommend.
More than half of local customers see your Business Profile before they ever reach your website, and four in ten convert without visiting it at all. The profile carries about a third of the map pack ranking weight, and it is the record Google's AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Gemini read first for local questions. Complete, active profiles earn seven times the clicks of incomplete ones. We build yours to that standard and keep it there every month.
The Google half of a complete profile strategy. The Microsoft half is Bing Places for Business; coverage across your service area is measured in Google & Apple Maps.
Visibility everywhere starts with the Google Business Profile.
Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the basis for whether your business is found in traditional search, AI search tools like ChatGPT, and Google or Apple Maps. It is the record Google ranks for the map pack, the record AI models verify before they recommend anyone, and the first (often the only) thing customers read before they call.
Setting the profile up once is not enough. Google favors profiles that are worked like an active social media account: fresh posts, new photos, updated services and hours, answered questions and prompt, keyword-rich replies to every review, several times each month. That steady activity is what separates a business Google and AI models treat as open and engaged from one they treat as dormant.
The Google Business Profile is also the source of truth that hundreds of directories, apps and citation sources either syndicate from or check against. Get it complete and consistent and that accuracy spreads outward; leave errors in it and they replicate everywhere.

The profile stopped being a listing. It became the source.
For years the Business Profile was the box beside the search results. Today it is the record everything else reads. Google's map pack ranks on it. AI Mode cites the Maps and profile record in about eight of ten local answers.[10] Google replaced the profile's Q&A with Ask Maps, a Gemini feature that answers customers' questions live from your profile, reviews, and website; if the profile is vague, the AI has nothing to say.[7]
Google's March 2026 core update made the standard explicit: completeness scoring, review recency, and owner response rate gained weight, proximity tightened in competitive categories, and keyword-stuffed business names became a leading cause of suspensions.[6][7] Home services, legal, and healthcare saw the largest swings.[11]
The direction of travel is clear. Gartner projects organic search traffic to websites will fall by half or more by 2028 as consumers shift to AI assistants,[13] and those assistants answer local questions from the same profile record. The profile becomes more valuable as the click becomes rarer.
And the payoff is concentrated. Complete profiles get seven times the clicks; weekly posters get 28% more website clicks and 42% more direction requests than monthly posters; review responders convert 16% more views into actions.[1][3] Yet 41% of small businesses still run an incomplete profile.[3]

Every field is a ranking signal or a conversion signal. Usually both.
The research is consistent on which elements change rankings and which change customer behavior. We work all of them.
| Element | What the data says | What Google's AI reads from it | What we do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary category | The single most influential profile field for map pack rank; wrong or generic categories cost positions.[9] | Defines what kind of business you are in every AI answer. | Select and test the category that matches your money searches; add relevant secondaries. |
| Completeness | 7x more clicks, 70% more visits; 2.1x the actions; completeness scoring gained weight in March 2026.[1][3][6] | Missing fields become missing facts in Ask Maps and AI Overviews. | Fill every service, attribute, product, and hour; correct Google's auto-generated edits. |
| Description | 750+ characters earns 2.5x more impressions.[1] | Primary grounding text for Gemini's answers about you. | Write it for a customer and an AI: what you do, where, for whom, and why. |
| Reviews | ~16–20% of ranking weight; recency and response rate now outweigh volume; responders get 16% more actions; 4.2+ lifts conversion.[6][9][3][5] | Sentiment and specifics ("fixed our AC on a Sunday") are quoted directly. | Reviews & Reputation: compliant generation, every review answered within 48 hours. |
| Photos & posts | Photos lift views 30–50%; 100+ photos ≈35% more site clicks; weekly posts ≈28% more clicks and 42% more directions.[5][3][1] | Freshness signals an active, real business; stale profiles get skipped. | Monthly photo sets of real work, team, and premises; weekly posts with a call to action. |
| Data consistency | Citations ≈7% of weight, but mismatches undermine every other signal.[9] | AI cross-checks the profile against directories before citing it. | Local Citations and Bing Places kept character-exact to the profile. |
| Website link | On-page signals ≈19% of weight; the linked page confirms services and location.[9] | Ask Maps and AI Overviews read the linked site alongside the profile. | LocalBusiness schema and a landing page that matches the profile exactly. |
The highest-return asset most local businesses under-manage.
An average verified profile is viewed more than a thousand times a month and produces about 59 actions: website clicks, direction requests, and calls.[1] Those are not browsers. Around half of local-intent searches end in a profile action within 24 hours, and mobile searchers are 2.3 times more likely to call straight from the profile.[4][1]
The gap between an average profile and an optimized one is the difference between a 5% action rate and a 20% one.[3][8] Because the profile is free, that lift is almost entirely margin, which is why it is the first thing we fix in every local engagement.

Google Business Profile, answered.
A Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the free listing that controls how your business appears in Google Search, Google Maps, and now Google's AI answers. For local searches it is usually the first thing a customer sees: 53% of local consumers view the profile before they ever reach the website, and about 42% of profile conversions come from people who never visit the site at all. It carries roughly a third of the ranking weight for the map pack. Our Google Business Profile service manages it as the primary local asset it is, alongside the website it links to.
The correct primary category and relevant secondary categories, every service you offer with descriptions, accurate hours including holidays, a 750-character description written for both customers and AI, attributes, products where relevant, a full photo set refreshed regularly, weekly posts, and a review response for every review. Google reports complete profiles earn 7x more clicks and 70% more[1] in-store visits, and profiles with a long description get 2.5x more impressions. Completeness scoring gained weight in Google's March 2026 core update.
Relevance, distance, and prominence. The profile itself is about 32% of pack weight, with the primary category the single most influential field; reviews are about 16–20%,[9][6] and after the March 2026 update review recency and owner response rate count more than raw volume. Proximity shapes more than half of outcomes, so rankings vary block by block. Keyword-stuffed business names, once a shortcut, are now a leading cause of suspensions. See Google & Apple Maps for how we measure coverage across a service area.
Directly. For local questions, Google AI Mode cites Maps and Business Profile records in about eight of ten answers, AI Overviews draw on the same data, and Google replaced the profile Q&A with "Ask Maps," a Gemini feature that answers customer questions in real time from your profile, reviews, and website. Google's own performance report now splits impressions by classic panel, Maps AI summary card, and AI Overviews. A vague or incomplete profile gives the AI nothing to say. Our Google AI Overviews & Gemini work starts with the profile for this reason.
They are the two levers customers and Google respond to fastest. Businesses that respond to reviews see about 16% more actions from views, ratings above roughly 4.2 lift conversion,[3][5] and a steady flow of recent reviews now outranks a large stale total. Profiles with photos get 30–50% more views,[5] and listings with 100+ photos get materially more calls and website clicks. Reviews & Reputation runs compliant review generation and responses; our monthly photo and post cadence keeps the profile active.
Ongoing. Google rewards activity: weekly posts, fresh photos, answered reviews, and current hours, and Google's latest updates penalize stale or auto-generated data. Google also edits profiles on its own (categories, services, attributes suggested from the web), which needs to be checked and corrected. Businesses posting weekly see roughly 28% more website clicks and 42% more direction requests than monthly posters. Our service[1] is monthly for that reason, and pairs with Local Citations so the data around the profile matches it.
Yes. Service-area businesses verify with a hidden address and defined service areas, and rank on prominence more than proximity. Multi-location brands manage profiles in bulk through Business Profile Manager and the API, with brand standards for categories, attributes, and responses and local teams handling reviews and posts within them. See Home Services and Enterprise & Multi-Location.
Google's performance report gives views by surface (Search, Maps, and now AI surfaces), calls, direction requests, website clicks, messages, and the searches that triggered the profile. We add geo-grid map pack rank tracking across your service area, review velocity and rating, and a comparison to category peers, and report it monthly beside your Bing and AI visibility. A typical verified profile averages about 59 actions a month; the goal is to move the action rate, not just the views. See how it works.
